Unfinished Stair Tread Thickness
At Treads Plus, our stair noses are designed to wrap around your unfinished stair treads. We offer two standard sizing options:
- 1-1/8" – Choose this size if your unfinished stair tread measures 1-1/8" thick or less.
- 1-1/2" – Choose this size if your unfinished stair tread measures greater than 1-1/8" and less than or equal to 1-1/2" thick.
Pro Tip: If your stairs are currently carpeted, simply pull back a corner of the carpet to measure the actual wood tread underneath. Once measured, you can push the carpet back into place until you’re ready for removal and installation.
Stair Width
We offer stair noses in various lengths, with our most common lengths being 42" and 47". In select colors we offer lengths up to 72". Choose the smallest length that is Greater than or equal to the width of your stairs.
Flooring Thickness (If Applicable)
Some products on our site include a third measurement. One of the size options would look something like this:
1-1/8 x 42" x 6.5mm
- the "mm" refers to the thickness of your flooring, (not to be mistaken with the wear layer which comes in thickness of 12MIL, 22MIL 30MIL etc.)
- This measurement is only needed if multiple flooring thicknesses exist for the same color.
- You can usually find the flooring thickness printed on the box label.
- For LifeProof flooring, check the top of the box under "Gauge".
